Gold Standard

If you've seen my schedule you know that I've been performing on occasions with the above trio that includes Larry Buck and Dave Gladding, also known as the "Gold Standard".

Larry Buck is a Blues singer from New Orleans. He plays piano with one hand and bass with the other. His smoky voice will remind you of Louie Armstrong. Especially on his New Orleans Medley which includes "What a Wonderful World" and "When the Saints go Marching in".
Dave Gladding is a drum teacher and has played in multiple bands including "The Larks" and "Dark Gold Jazz". The trio is performing a mix of Blues, and classic R&B (Stevie Wonder, Aretha, Beatles, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Ray Charles) with Larry and Pam switching off on leads and harmonies.

Well we've made it through another long, cold winter. I'm looking forward to warm weather and Thrasher's french fries:) I am working with some new people this year. Jim and Pete are busy with the Bullbuckers. So, I'll be working with a few different musicians. Here is my schedule:

Jekyll & Hyde

This will mark my return to the theater stage after a very long hiatus. The production is by the Community Players of Salisbury, a very professional organization with a long track record of staging quality theater. They're doing a tremendous job with a very challenging show! All the actors are also phenomenal singers and we have a large orchestral accompaniment. We're in the final week of preparation - it's full on!

Jazzfest Followup

Cheers to everyone that came out to our Friday and Saturday night shows! This year's jazzfest was one of the best ever. Folks were singing and dancing in the aisles. I love Rehoboth Beach!

Thanks to my friend Cheryl Nemazie for taking the photos (below) with my camera Friday night. She's amazing! And big thanks to the awesome Felix Contreras for joining us on percussion after he finished his early show with Van Williamson.

I'm hoping to get some additional photos from our Saturday show and will update this post when I do. And for the curious there are a few more photos floating around Facebook too.

Bonus: check out this random video clip of an after-party in our hotel lobby in the wee hours of Sunday morning with Bob Diener on the piano. I couldn't resist jumping in on a few tunes as well. So much FUN!

New CD

So it seems that two of my CDs are already nearing the end of their production runs! Rather than commissioning another lot we decided to create a brand new compilation CD (click the CD picture for a better look).

This project features my personal picks of both previously released as well as new unreleased material I've recorded over the past 15 years or so of my professional career. It's a nice mix of jazz, pop and Broadway. Many of the tracks were digitally remastered for this CD and the sound quality is great!

This one is not yet available for web purchase but if you're interested I'll have them with me at my shows, or send me an email to the address on the CD and I'll see about hooking you up. Ciao!

You're looking at a couple of out-of-work musicians on New Year's Eve
(not necessarily a bad thing):

Here I am with Jim (and other unseen friends) having dinner in Washington D.C. prior to enjoying a fantastic performance by John Pizzarelli and his larger band at the Kennedy Center. The show was broadcast by NPR as part on their annual New Year's Eve "Toast of the Nation" event. You can click here to listen to the entire concert (recommended!).

Afterward we went backstage and hung out with the fabulous musicians, including their arranger Don Sebeskey (genius). Jim also made acquaintances with Tony Kadleck. Then it was up to the Kennedy Center foyer to ring in the New Year with more music and champagne toasts.

Most of my followers know me for my work singing jazz and pop. Yet, I was classically trained and still like to keep those chops up too. So for something a little different here I am singing the other Sunday at church (sans the choir I belong too).

If you're in the area come out some Sunday to Trinity United Methodist Church in Salisbury and hear the rest of this fantastic choir. We recently won top honors among Eastern Shore chorales at a recent cavalcade of choirs competition.

Rehoboth Jazz Festival

This year's Rehoboth Autumn Jazz Festival is right around the corner. Here's the latest update:

The Pam Miller Band will be back for performances at the Cultured Pearl on October 16 and 17 with three shows both nights starting at 7pm and continuing through the evening, including a late walk-in show at 11pm.

This year we've assembled a truly world class band just for the festival. And every show will be unique!

On guitar we're pleased to welcome back Pete Bozick. Pete has several of his own CDs out and is a solid, in demand performer that brings a hip funk-rock influence to our music.

New this year we're privileged to have Dennis Michaels on bass. Dennis has toured the U.S. performing with too many top names to list here.

By now you know our other core members Dean Haemel (drums) and Jim Miller (trumpet and flugelhorn).

Plus we'll also have Joe Genovese from Washington DC (tenor sax) as our special recurring guest.

I've got to admit that there's been a few times that I wish I had a prompt like this to use at some of my band shows!

Yes, that's me but the photo wasn't taken at a Pam Miller Band show. Earlier this year I got to serve as stage manager for the live production of "Radio From Downtown" held at the Avalon Theatre. Here I am assisting Van Williamson, the wild and crazy host and director of RFD...

Hybrid

This is a follow up to the MVA post below. I replaced my totaled CRV with a Ford Escape Hybrid. I've gone Green! Here I am on day one:

Now for the rest of the story...

After I got the car I had to wait over 2 months to drive it! Why? Well, my accident injuries were initially misdiagnosed by the original treating medical professionals. It turned out that both my feet were broken, including a rather severe fracture of my right talus. I got casted and that was that!

On May 21 I was in a rather serious car accident - thankfully not my fault! Look at the slide show below if you're curious. I've been recuperating but it's knocked me out of circulation for a while and it looks like I'll be on crutches for the foreseeable future...
